Many of you expressed frustration when we launched small projects. Indeed, some of these loans can be financed in just a few minutes and many of you did not have time to lend. Following lengthy and constructive discussions with many lenders, we decided to limit the maximum amount for projects below €100,000 in order to allow many more lenders to invest. We will therefore test this new limit for several weeks and if this test is conclusive we will keep this model.
Why €140?
This limit will allow to double the number of lenders on projects below €100,000. Indeed, the average amount lent per project is €131 and few lenders are investing larger sums. On the other hand, since the sums can go up to €2,000 per project, a small number of lenders can take a very significant place. For example, it is not uncommon for 20% of individual lenders to account for more than 65% of the total amount lent by individuals.
More diversification for individual lenders
With 19 projects funded over the last 30 days, we try to offer as many projects as possible for a better diversification. This new limit is in line with this objective and will allow more lenders to diversify their Portfolio more widely. It will have no impact on the distribution between institutional lenders and individual lenders. Institutional investors will remain at 51%. The idea is not to increase this share, but to increase the number of private lenders. As a reminder, institutional investors automatically lend 51% at the beginning of the project and then complete if there are not enough individual lenders (which is often the case on loans exceeding €300,000 for example).
We are aware that very large lenders will not be very enthusiastic about this new model. We hope, though, that they will understand the logic of our choice.
